It鈥檚 been all green lights, so far, with construction of West 黑料社入口鈥檚 new fire hall.听
The $14.3 million project, which will deliver both a new fire hall and a new community centre, is moving along as planned, city councillors heard this week.听
鈥淲e鈥檙e making good progress with the firehall,鈥 acting city manager Trevor Siebel said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 taking shape, in terms of form.鈥澨
Those were reassuring words for acting mayor Rick De Jong, who noted that other recent City of West 黑料社入口 projects, such as the municipal听hall and听a water treatment plant, were both considerably over-budget and completed later than planned.听
鈥淚鈥檓 going to dare to say it, 鈥極n time, and on budget鈥,鈥 De Jong said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 what we need to deliver on, so we can show the residents of this community that we鈥檙e able to do that.鈥
Council also gave its support to a plan to dredge Green Bay from silt that makes navigation difficult at times for boaters. Cost of the nearly $1 million project will be borne by the 40 homeowners along the bay but the work will be overseen by the city.听
De Jong said the silting of the bay had been going on for many years, and he was glad to see remedial work finally underway.
But he again expressed some concern over potential cost-overruns, and wondered if city officials had included a sufficiently large contingency fund in case the project goes above $1 million.听
Siebel said: 鈥淲e feel we鈥檝e been conservative, but then, with a lot of tendering projects, it does depend on who鈥檚 available to tender. So we鈥檒l be eagerly awaiting those tendering results.鈥
