Trump: world鈥檚 biggest influencer
Dear Editor:
The word 鈥渋nfluencer鈥, which means a person who influences others, seem to be mentioned more and more often these days. Judging from the media coverage Donald Trump gets, he is unquestionable a global influencer.
When he dies I believe there will be a huge, perhaps unruly, crowd in attendance to watch his body being lowered into the ground. A few of those people will be mourners, but the vast majority will be there to satisfy themselves the 鈥淪.O.B.鈥 is actually dead and gone.

Searching for Winston Churchill
Dear Editor:
In a memo outlining his 鈥淎merica First鈥 trade policy, Donald Trump has not only threatened Canada with tariffs, but he also plans to hit back at 鈥渄iscriminatory鈥 levies on American multinationals.
The U.S. tax code is empowered to retaliate against foreign countries by imposing punitive taxes on their citizens and businesses in America. Needing no Congressional approval, this move will trigger a global confrontation over tax regimes. Trump has already primed his administration for a wide-ranging international tax fight.
The new Liberal leader will automatically replace Justin Trudeau as prime minister, no matter how short-lived. He or she will have to deal with more than tariffs. Thankfully, Canadians tend to elect responsible people to office, even now it looks like, our PM, his Liberal cabinet ministers and provincial premiers have stepped up and behind the scenes and formed a game plan. A number of senior ministers and premiers have travelled to Mar-a-Lago, and all this is before either of the Liberal leadership contestant have uttered a word.
So, which Liberal leadership candidate is best suited to handle a hostile neighbour and trading partner? Our major trading partner has changed the rules. Fair play has given way to arm-twisting to secure economic advantage. This is new for Canada. A trading partner that is an economic colossus, and critical military ally, but will use mafia-strong arm tactics to bend trading partners to their will. This is our future no matter who is prime minister.
Our prime minister will depend on the army of government officials, experts and economic advisors to support Canada鈥檚 frontline negotiators.
The quality we need in our prime minister is more than a tough negotiator. Canada needs 鈥渁 wartime鈥 leader -- a forward looking, inspirational prime minister to help guide us through the next, what will be economically tough four years 鈥 a Canadian Winston Churchill.

Happy Chinese New Year 2025!
Dear Editor:
On Saturday, the 黑料社入口 Chinese United Association hosted its inaugural Chinese New Year celebration at Trinity Church, welcoming over 200 attendees, including local Chinese families and invited guests.
The evening was filled with vibrant activities, starting with a bustling market fair and a traditional Chinese New Year banquet feast. The highlight of the event was a series of lively stage performances, all thoughtfully prepared by KCUA members.
黑料社入口 city councillor Ron Cannan and KCUA president Mr. Yan Changxiang officially opened the performances with the festive popping of confetti cannons, accompanied by electrifying lion and dragon dances signifying protection and good luck for the Lunar New Year.
Throughout the evening, talented children and community members entertained the audience with a variety of performances, including Taichi and martial arts, traditional Chinese crosstalk, folk music and dances, and a fashion show featuring ancient Chinese costumes from various dynasties.
This year, the Chinese New Year begins on Wednesday, Jan. 29, marking the start of the Year of the Snake, a zodiac sign symbolizing wisdom, charm, and determination.

Put your name to what you say
Dear Editor:
While watching Global BC News yesterday, a political ad appeared from a group who called themselves 鈥淧rotecting Canada鈥. Of course it was all about that dastardly villain, Pierre Poilievre and the massive pension that he will be owed.
Aside from the fact that Pierre鈥檚 pension is based on his years of service as that is the plan for MPs (several Liberals and others will earn more), the line from the Who song, echoed in my head. 鈥淲ho, are you? Who, who... Who?鈥 So, I went to the group鈥檚 website to find out 鈥榳ho鈥 wanted to protect me and aside from claiming to be funded by a variety of progressive persons and organizations, not a single name or group was acknowledged.
In searching, I found a National Post article from the last election that identified two individuals, one an NDP hack and the other a Liberal. Anonymous groups, apparently, are allowed to advertise before the election is called without identifying themselves which I find curious.
I may not agree with some of the letters on this page, but I respect the fact, that the people who pen them put their name on them. Regarding this 鈥淐areer Politician鈥 slight in the ad, that the Liberals and NDP regurgitate regularly, I want you to think of this.
Say you have an electrical short somewhere in your home, that could end up burning down the house, would you want a certified electrician to fix it? Someone who went to school, apprenticed and honed their skill? Or would you let a drama teacher or a banker who claimed they could fix it do the job? So just maybe, Pierre Poilievre has trained for the job of Prime Minister and serving Canada, all his life? I鈥檓 willing to find out and I鈥檒l put my name on it.

Do your job, court system
Dear Editor:
I read an article regarding an arrest, yet again, involving Seamus Kirby, this time for possession of a 3D printed handgun, which is basically untraceable.
This guy is a real piece of work, with a record as long as your arm, including robbery, driving dangerously, possessing a loaded and prohibited firearm, and at least 20 breaches of probation. All by the age of 33.
In 2023, he received a lifetime firearms prohibition after being caught running through a Summerland neighbourhood with a loaded handgun.
Does this twit have to kill someone before we keep him in prison? If this was the U.S., he would be facing 5-15 years in the slam, given his previous record.
Something needs to be done.
Crown counsel and judges, I say, do your damned job.

Paved paradise, put up parking lot
Dear Editor:
Below is a quote from a City of 黑料社入口 staff report to council suggesting a need for residents to care for and water boulevard trees next to their property.
Notice closely the dire consequences of paving around a few trees:
鈥淧aving, adding the wrong type of gravel, changing the grade, or filing in these areas may cause flooding on adjacent property and roads,鈥 the report says. 鈥淭his increase in paving increases the risk of a minor rainstorm becoming a flood for abutting properties as the water has nowhere to soak into.鈥
Now let鈥檚 consider the aggressive determination of staff and perhaps our mayor and members of council to pave over the floodplain which is 黑料社入口 Springs Golf Course.
Staff are pushing to have all 106 acres (half now, half later) covered in asphalt, concrete and warehouses despite knowing the absorption of water here prevents flooding of the orchards and farms that surround 85% of the property, the airport and property downstream along Mill Creek.
黑料社入口鈥檚 mayor and council have already voted 8-1 in 2023 to maintain the 鈥減ark open space鈥 designation of the property on the Future Land Use Map.
We can and must own this critically important property to permanently protect it.
